Academic Writing Acceleration: Investigating the Impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Applications on Academic Writing Efficiency

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) applications on enhancing scientific writing efficiency in the academic environment, focusing on Universitas Muhammadiyah Enrekang, Indonesia. Through interviews with several experienced academic writing instructors, data were collected to explore their experiences with AI technology, perceptions of its effects, as well as challenges and recommendations for further development. The findings indicate that the majority of respondents have experience using various AI applications, such as Grammarly, ChatGPT, and Google Translate, which aid in improving efficiency in drafting, editing, and revising. However, some challenges such as the risk of overreliance, authenticity of work, and integration of AI-generated outputs with writing styles remain concerns. Recommendations include regular training, ethical guidelines, and the development of AI solutions tailored to academic needs. This study concludes that with a prudent approach, AI technology can be a valuable tool in enhancing the efficiency and quality of academic writing, but also underscores the importance of awareness of its ethical use.
