Abstract

Pamali discourse in the form of words or patterned sentences containing taboos or prohibitions originates from several cases either resolved because their existence can be reasoned about or those which are quite accepted because they are simply believed. This study aims to describe character education in the discourse of pamali (TP) of Wolio community. The TP discourse spread among the Wolio community is believed to have certain consequences for anyone who violates it. Data were obtained through participatory observation and in-depth interviews with informants who are native speakers of the Wolio community. This research method uses an analytical descriptive approach with data analysis techniques referring to the views of Miles & Huberman, namely: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results showed that pamali speech discourse in Wolio community culture can reflect diverse character education values. The values include independence character education, discipline character, work management, empathy character, caring character (care about health, care about personal safety), mutual cooperation, and belief and faith chracter. The findings provide an in-depth understanding of the cultural values of pamali in Wolio society that can provide implications for a person's character education. Furthermore, these findings can also be used as a reference for readers, character education activists, and other researchers as reference material in their writing.
